Description
This official Tullibardine single malt, a 40 year old Highland malt from 1966, drawn from cask 1112 and bottled at 49.8%. 436 bottles in all. Tullibardine was first built in 1949 beneath the Ochil Hills at Blackford, and it is known for its wine cask finishes. Water comes from the Ochil Hills springs, the same source as the Highland Spring bottled water.
Distilled on soft Highland spring water, building the gentle Tullibardine style. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, lending honey and vanilla. Decades leave it deep and gentle, waxy honey and dried fruit with great age. Wine cask finishing is central to the modern range, layering extra fruit. It is one of few distilleries to distil, mature and bottle entirely on the one site. Delme-Evans, a noted gravity flow designer, also drew up the Jura and GlenAllachie distilleries. The malt also feeds the Highland Queen blend, another brand in the Picard stable.
Bottled at a cask strength 49.8%, it is rich. Vanilla, toffee and orchard fruit meet honeyed oak sweetness underneath. Soft orchard fruit and vanilla sit behind the sweetness. It closes soft, honeyed and warm. This is the soft Highland malt of Blackford.
