Description
Single malt Tullibardine, drawn and bottled by Edition Spirits, a 27 year old Highland malt from 1992, drawn from cask HL 16917 and bottled at 41.1%. 81 bottles in all. Opened in 1949 at the foot of the Ochil Hills, Tullibardine is a soft, honeyed Highland malt. The name is Gaelic for lookout hill, after a nearby hill once used to watch for approaching strangers.
Distilled in copper stills on Ochil Hills spring water, giving the light, fruity spirit at its heart. A refill American oak cask held it, keeping the soft character to the fore. At this age it is rounded and mellow, the fruit folded into a honeyed body. Years in oak round the spirit, the honey and soft fruit deepening with age. Picard is a Burgundy wine family, and their casks come from vineyards across France. The name comes from the Gaelic for lookout hill, after a hill once used to watch for strangers. It is one of few distilleries to distil, mature and bottle entirely on the one site.
At cask strength 41.1% it is full bodied. The refill oak lending honey and vanilla runs under a mellow, honeyed character. A dried fruit and a soft oak give it depth. The finish runs gentle, fruity and mellow. This is a gentle, honeyed Highland single malt.
