Description
A distillery bottling of Tullibardine, aged 12 year old from 2007 and bottled at 56.6%. Just 15200 bottles were filled. Set in Blackford, on the edge of the Highlands, Tullibardine has distilled since 1949. Picard brought a range of wine cask finishes, named for the size of the cask: the 225 Sauternes, 228 Burgundy and 500 Sherry.
It was drawn off copper pot stills fed by the Danny Burn, for a soft, vanilla scented spirit. A refill American oak cask held it, keeping the soft character to the fore. Younger here, it keeps a light, honeyed freshness over vanilla. The light, malty make leans on the cask for much of its colour and flavour. Its water rises in the Ochil Hills, the same source that feeds the Highland Spring brand. After lean years and a long silence, private investors brought the distillery back to life in 2003. Picard is a Burgundy wine family, and their casks come from vineyards across France.
At 56.6%, undiluted, it is deep and fruity. A gentle vanilla from the wood, with pear, honey and a malty note. The texture is soft and round, the fruit lifted by honey. A warming, honeyed finish lingers. This is Tullibardine's fruity Highland style.
