Description
Weingut Tschermonegg makes this Frizzante from Gelber Muskateller in Styria in southern Austria, a grape prized there for its heady floral aromatics. It is built as a light, semi-sparkling wine, fermented cool in stainless steel to hold on to the Muscat perfume and primary fruit, then finished with a soft bead rather than full sparkling pressure. At 11.5 per cent it stays light and fragrant, made for fresh, chilled drinking as an aperitif.
The wine shows pale straw with a fine, gentle perlage. The nose is openly floral, with elderflower and white flowers over peach, citrus and a honeysuckle top note. The palate is fresh and light, the aromatic fruit carried by clean acidity to a crisp, balanced close. Serve well chilled at 6 to 8 degrees in a white wine glass. It works as an aromatic aperitif and suits light salads, delicate white fish and fresh goat cheese.
