Description
Elixir Distillers selected this Tormore matured to 18 year old from 2005, drawn from cask 1630 and bottled at 53.4%. Only 229 bottles were released. Tormore was built in the late 1950s near Grantown-on-Spey in Speyside; it is one of the most striking distilleries in Scotland. Elixir Distillers bought it in 2022 and are reviving it as a single malt brand.
It was worked through swan neck stills with purifiers, for the light, clean, nutty make Tormore is known for. A refill American oak cask held it, keeping the clean character to the fore. Past a decade the nut deepens into almond, honey and a riper orchard fruit. Refill oak lets the clean, nutty distillery character lead. The new owners released a Blueprint Series of 10 year olds in 2025 ahead of a full range. Its rise in 1958 broke a long pause in distillery building that had lasted decades. The architect Sir Albert Richardson gave it a grand, ornamental design unlike any other distillery.
Undiluted at 53.4%, it is layered. A light, nutty fruitiness meet a quiet vanilla from the refill oak. Beneath it run almond, apple and a soft spice. Green apple and almond draw out the close. This is a light, nutty Speyside single malt.
