Description
This is a Tormore single malt, chosen and bottled by vom Fass, a 26 year old Speyside malt from 1995, drawn from cask 1900290 and bottled at 50.7%. Just 330 bottles were filled. Set on the A95 in the heart of Speyside, Tormore has distilled since 1960. The distillery is sometimes called the white cathedral of Speyside for its grand design.
Distilled in swan neck stills fitted with purifiers, on soft Achvochkie Burn water, giving the structured, nutty Speyside spirit. Maturation in a fortified or wine cask lent red fruit and spice. Past twenty years the spirit turns honeyed and nutty while keeping its clarity. A patient maturation suits the light, nutty Tormore character. The new owners released a Blueprint Series of 10 year olds in 2025 ahead of a full range. Its rise in 1958 broke a long pause in distillery building that had lasted decades. The architect Sir Albert Richardson gave it a grand, ornamental design unlike any other distillery.
Undiluted at 50.7%, it is layered. The Port cask adds plum and red berry, and the refill oak lending honey and vanilla runs under a clean, nutty character. Soft orchard fruit and nut sit behind the sweetness. It closes clean, nutty and dry. This is a structured, nutty Speysider.
