Description
From Best Spirits comes this Tormore, aged 12 year old from 2008, drawn from cask 701189 and bottled at 62%. A release of 222 bottles. Founded in 1958 near Grantown-on-Spey in Speyside, Tormore is a grand Speyside distillery. It was designed by Sir Albert Richardson, a President of the Royal Academy, in a grand ornamental style.
It was worked through swan neck stills with purifiers, for the light, clean, nutty make Tormore is known for. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, with vanilla under the orchard fruit. At this age the spirit is fresh and nutty, the apple and citrus bright. Refill oak lets the clean, nutty distillery character lead. The new owners released a Blueprint Series of 10 year olds in 2025 ahead of a full range. Its rise in 1958 broke a long pause in distillery building that had lasted decades. The architect Sir Albert Richardson gave it a grand, ornamental design unlike any other distillery.
Bottled at a cask strength 62%, it is rich. A nutty, orchard fruit sweetness sit alongside a quiet vanilla from the refill oak. A green apple and a citrus note lift it. It finishes clean, fresh and nutty. This is the architectural jewel of Speyside in a glass.
