Description
This Tormore, an official release, a 10 year old Speyside malt and bottled at 43%. Tormore, completed in 1960 in Speyside, near the Cairngorms, is one of Scotland's most striking distilleries. The granite buildings carry copper roofs and a musical clock that plays four Scottish songs each quarter hour.
Distilled on soft Speyside water through purifier stills, building the firm, clean Tormore style. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, gentle American oak beneath the fruit. At a youthful age the fruit is lively and the almond clear. The slow loss of the angel's share concentrates the nutty, citrussy core over time. It has used wood chips from local forestry to fire its stills since 1984. For most of its life its spirit vanished quietly into blends rather than into bottles of its own. Elixir Distillers bought Tormore in 2022 and are reviving it as a single malt brand. Most of the spirit matures off site, much of it in refill ex-Bourbon wood.
Bottled at 43%, it is rounded. Melon, nut and a grassy note sit alongside honeyed oak sweetness underneath. It is clean and structured, the nutty spirit shining through. A nutty, gently spiced finish lingers. This is Tormore's clean, nutty Speyside style.
