This Tomatin, an official release, a 44 year old Highland malt from 1975, drawn from cask 35834 and bottled at 46.5%. A release of 300 bottles. Set in the Highland hills south of Inverness, Tomatin has made single malt since 1897. Tomatin malt long fed blends such as The Antiquary and The Talisman.

It was worked through onion stills for a light, fruity spirit, for the soft, fruity Highland make Tomatin is known for. Ex-Sherry wood added a dried fruit richness to the soft make. Decades leave it deep and gentle, candied fruit and a waxy honey with great age. The unpeated spirit lets the wood and the fruit speak without smoke. Special releases like Decades and Warehouse 6 have marked the distillery's milestones. Cold, clean water runs down to the distillery from the hills above. Under Japanese stewardship the focus turned from sheer volume to quality. The very long fermentation is central to the distillery's fruity character.

At 46.5% it is supple and fruity. A mellow, fruity character, and the Oloroso lends raisin, walnut and a dried fruit richness. Soft orchard fruit and honey sit behind the cask. The close is soft, fruit over gentle oak. This is Tomatin's soft, fruity Highland style.
