An official Tomatin single malt from 2011, drawn from cask 37607 and bottled at 56.5%. 817 bottles in all. Tomatin is a Highland single malt distilled in the hills south of Inverness, where the distillery was founded in 1897. The distillery was founded in 1897 by a local company, taking its name from the village, Gaelic for hill of the juniper.

The spirit was distilled from unpeated malt in copper stills on Allt na Frithe water, giving the light, mellow spirit at its heart. A sherry butt held it, the wood lending raisin and walnut. Without an age statement, the malt is light, fruity and mellow. A patient maturation suits the soft, fruity Tomatin character. An old cattle drovers' road ran through Tomatin, and whisky was made here long before the distillery. The arrival of the Highland Railway in the 1890s made the distillery possible. It closed in 1906 and reopened in 1909, finding its feet over the following decades.

At cask strength 56.5% it is full bodied. Apple, pear and a soft honey, and the Pedro Ximenez lends raisin, date and treacle. The texture is soft and round, the fruit lifted by honey. The finish runs gentle, fruity and mellow. This is a fruity Highland single malt from the Monadhliath hills.
