Description
Riegger's Selection bottled this Tomatin, aged 9 year old from 2007, drawn from cask 900047 and bottled at 56.9%. Just 596 bottles were filled. Tomatin is a Highland single malt distilled in the hills south of Inverness, where the distillery was founded in 1897. Cu Bocan takes its name from a spectral hound said to haunt the Tomatin hills.
Drawn off copper pot stills fed by the burn of the deer, for a soft, apple and pear scented spirit. Ex-Sherry wood added a dried fruit richness to the soft make. Still young, the malt is fruity and mellow with a gentle spice. The mellow make leans on the cask for much of its colour and flavour. The arrival of the Highland Railway in the 1890s made the distillery possible. It closed in 1906 and reopened in 1909, finding its feet over the following decades. The Antiquary blend came into the group through the blender J and W Hardie.
At its natural 56.9% it is concentrated. A soft, fruity sweetness, and the Oloroso brings dried fruit, fig and a nutty depth. It is fruity and soft, the fruit and oak well matched. The finish is rounded, honeyed and gentle. This is a gentle, fruity Highland single malt.
