Description
This official Tomatin single malt matured to 30 year old and bottled at 46%. Only 1200 bottles were released. Tomatin is the soft, fruity Highland malt of a distillery founded in 1897 near Inverness. Cu Bocan takes its name from a spectral hound said to haunt the Tomatin hills.
Worked through onion stills for a light, fruity spirit, for the soft, fruity Highland make Tomatin is known for. Maturation in a sherry cask laid dried fruit over the fruit. Decades leave it deep and gentle, candied fruit and a waxy honey with great age. Refill oak lets the fruity Tomatin character lead, apple over honey. Tomatin stands at over three hundred metres, among the highest in the land. An old cattle drovers' road ran through Tomatin, and whisky was made here long before the distillery. The arrival of the Highland Railway in the 1890s made the distillery possible.
At an approachable 46% it is soft and balanced. A mellow, fruity character, and the Oloroso lends raisin, walnut and a dried fruit richness. It is gentle and fruity, the soft spirit shining through. A fruity, lightly spiced finish lingers. This is the soft, fruity Highland malt of Tomatin.
