Description
The Sexton is the sherry matured single malt created at Bushmills in Co. Antrim by blender Alex Thomas, a brand built entirely around dark, sherried Irish malt. This 11 Years Old, bottled at 43% in 2025 for the European market, is a senior expression that gives the house recipe far longer in wood than the young core release.
It matures in Oloroso sherry casks coopered from French oak, a drier and more tannic wood than the usual Spanish butts, so dark chocolate, espresso and dried fruit arrive with a firmer grip of oak spice. Underneath, the triple distilled Bushmills spirit keeps its soft orchard fruit and honey, and the tension between the two gives the whiskey its shape.
