Description
This official Lindores Abbey single malt, bottled at 49.4%. Lindores Abbey Distillery opened in 2017 beside the abbey ruins where Scotch whisky was first written of in 1494. It was built in 2017 by Drew and Helen McKenzie Smith, whose family has held the Lindores land since 1913.
Distilled on water from a borehole the monks first dug, building the layered Lindores style. Maturation in a sherry cask laid dried fruit over the fruit. A young distillery leans on lively casks, the wood shaping much of the flavour. Lindores also makes Aqua Vitae, a botanical spirit after the medieval water of life. The whisky is bottled on site at Newburgh to keep transport low. A young distillery, it leans on active casks to bring its whisky to life quickly. The house style is layered and fruity, richer than a typical light Lowland. The Casks of Lindores range shows the spirit in bourbon, sherry and STR red wine wood.
Bottled at a cask strength 49.4%, it is intense. The Oloroso brings dried fruit, fig and a nutty depth. It is rich and fruity, the young spirit shining through. A fruity, gently spiced finish lingers. This is Lindores Abbey's layered young single malt.
