An official Lindores Abbey single malt, bottled at 49.4%. Lindores Abbey, in Fife, is widely called the spiritual home of Scotch whisky, the place named in the 1494 record of Friar John Cor. The late Dr Jim Swan shaped its cask policy, with his signature shaved, toasted and recharred red wine barriques.

It was drawn off the distillery's copper stills, for a full, fruity make ready for active wood. An STR red wine barrique shaped it, lending red fruit, chocolate and a baking spice. Years in active oak round the young spirit and add the cask's own character. The abbey ruins still stand beside the modern distillery buildings. The bottle shape is drawn from a 12th century pillar found in the abbey ruins. The 1494 Exchequer Rolls record a Lindores monk making aqua vitae for the king, the earliest written reference to Scotch. Michael Jackson wrote that for the whisky lover Lindores is a pilgrimage.

Bottled at a cask strength 49.4%, it is intense. The STR red wine cask lends red fruit, chocolate and a baking spice. A vanilla and a baking spice give it depth. Orchard fruit and a baking spice see out the finish. This is a rich, fruity young Fife single malt.
