Description
Lough Ree Distillery in Lanesborough, Co. Longford bottles The Bridge series while its own spirit comes of age, sourcing mature stock in the old bonder manner. An Dara, Irish for the second, is a single grain from the Great Northern Distillery in Dundalk, Co. Louth, bottled in 2019 at 8 Years Old, 194 bottles for the Irish market.
Bourbon casks gave the grain eight years of toffee, coconut and gentle banana sweetness before an Oloroso sherry cask finish added fig, date and a walnut dryness. Bottled at 46%, it shows how well patient grain whiskey takes sherry wood, richer than its style suggests but still soft in the Irish way.
