Description
Edition Spirits bottled this Tamnavulin single malt, aged 27 year old from 1991, drawn from cask HL 16117 and bottled at 47.6%. Just 255 bottles were filled. Tamnavulin was established in 1966 at Tomnavoulin, deep in Glen Livet; it was relaunched as a single malt in 2016. Water comes from the Easterton Spring, filtered through the surrounding limestone.
Distilled in copper stills fitted with purifiers, for a light spirit, giving the soft, grassy spirit at its heart. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, lending honey and vanilla. Long ageing brings a deeper dried fruit character and a mellow oak spice. Years in oak round the spirit, the fruit and honey deepening with age. Purifiers on the spirit stills keep only the lightest vapours, for a delicate spirit. Water is drawn from the Easterton Spring, filtered through limestone. The distillery is now owned by the Philippine Emperador group through Whyte and Mackay.
At a natural 47.6% it is full and fruity. The refill oak lending honey and vanilla, with apple, pear and a soft honey. The mouthfeel is soft, the fruit carried on a honeyed body. Honey and orchard fruit see out the finish. This is a clean, fruity malt from the Livet glen.
