Description
This official Tamnavulin single malt, a 23 year old and bottled at 45%. Established in 1966 on the River Livet in the Livet glen, Tamnavulin is a light Speyside malt. It stands on the site of a 16th century carding mill; the name means mill on the hill, and the old water wheel survives.
It was worked through purifier stills for a clean, fruity spirit, for the light, fruity Speyside make Tamnavulin is known for. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, the wood adding a light honeyed sweetness. Beyond twenty years the malt grows deep and honeyed, dried fruit and oak spice over orchard fruit. Refill oak lets the delicate distillery character lead, grass over orchard fruit. Purifiers on the spirit stills keep only the lightest vapours, for a delicate spirit. Water is drawn from the Easterton Spring, filtered through limestone. The distillery is now owned by the Philippine Emperador group through Whyte and Mackay. Its modern range leans on cask finishes, the motto single malt, double flavour.
At 45% it is smooth and fruity. A light, fruity sweetness meet a quiet vanilla from the refill oak. Beneath it run apple, honey and a soft spice. It finishes clean, fresh and fruity. This is a light, fruity Speyside single malt.
