Straw Boys Single Grain extends Connacht's playful Straw Boys label from poitín into whiskey, a no age statement Irish grain matured under the Co. Mayo distillery's care in Ballina on the River Moy. Bottled in 2022 at 43%, it is built as the easy going pour in the range.
Ex-bourbon casks do all the work here, and grain whiskey's light spirit takes their character readily: soft toffee, vanilla, banana and coconut, with a whisper of white pepper underneath. It suits highballs and ginger ale as happily as neat pours, and its gentle sweetness makes it a natural first step into Irish grain.
