Springbank The Greedy Angels – 3rd Edition 22 Years Old 1995

An official Springbank single malt, a 22 year old from 1995 and bottled at 53.7%. Just 200 bottles were filled. Springbank is a Campbeltown distillery distilling since 1828, a family distillery that malts and bottles every drop on site. The family owner also holds Cadenhead's, the oldest independent bottler in Scotland.

It was distilled around two and a half times from floor malted, lightly peated barley, with the spirit condensed in worm tubs. A sherry butt held it, the wood lending raisin and walnut. Beyond twenty years the malt grows waxy and deep, tropical fruit and salt over an oily base. The slow loss of the angel's share concentrates the oily, complex core over time. The sea loch at the foot of the town shapes the coastal character of the malt. Demand far outstrips the small output, and bottles are keenly chased. Springbank, Longrow and Hazelburn each show a different face of the one distillery.

At a full 53.7% it is bold and oily. Dried fruit, fig and walnut meets a salty, waxy depth with a whisper of peat. A waxy weight and a saline tang give it real body. The finish is long, waxy and briny. This is Springbank's rich, oily, maritime style.
