Description
An official Springbank single malt matured to 25 year old from 1990, drawn from cask 591 and bottled at 42.7%. 213 bottles in all. The Springbank distillery, established in 1828, is a family distillery that malts and bottles every drop on site. The whole process, malting included, is carried out by hand on the one site.
The make was run two and a half times through the stills from lightly peated malt, and slowly worm tub cooled. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, lending vanilla and honey. Past twenty years the spirit turns waxy and profound while keeping its character. The slow loss of the angel's share concentrates the oily, complex core over time. Few distilleries keep so much of the old craft alive under one roof. Campbeltown was once the whisky capital of the world, with more than thirty distilleries at its peak. Today just three distilleries survive in the old Kintyre whisky town.
At a hearty 42.7% it carries real weight. Vanilla, cream and light coconut meets a salty, waxy depth with a whisper of peat. It is rich and layered, the fruit and salt well matched. A long finish smoulders on salt and oil. This is a hand made Campbeltown single malt.
