Springbank Single Cask #152 25 Years Old 1974 (Ex-Bourbon)

A distillery bottling of Springbank, aged 25 year old from 1974, drawn from cask 152 and bottled at 46.3%. The outturn was 280 bottles. Springbank has distilled in Campbeltown since 1828, a cult Campbeltown distillery with a devoted following. Concerto barley is malted on the floors and kilned in the distillery's own kiln.

It was made by Springbank's singular two and a half times distillation, then cooled slowly in worm tubs. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, with vanilla under the oily fruit. Past twenty years the spirit turns waxy and profound while keeping its character. The cool, damp Campbeltown air by the sea gives a slow, even maturation. Springbank, Longrow and Hazelburn each show a different face of the one distillery. The open larch washbacks are a rare survival in modern Scotch. The distillery has become a place of pilgrimage for whisky enthusiasts. Kintyre's damp, mild climate suits a long and gentle maturation.

At an approachable 46.3% it is balanced. A briny, oily depth with a hint of peat ride on vanilla, honey and coconut. The texture is rich and oily, the salt threaded through. The finish runs deep, briny and warm. This is a complex, coastal Campbeltown whisky.
