This official Springbank single malt, aged 32 year old from 1970, drawn from cask 2966 and bottled at 53.1%. The outturn was 186 bottles. Springbank has distilled in Campbeltown since 1828, Campbeltown's most revered surviving distillery. Small output and a cult following keep its bottles allocated and keenly sought.

It was given the part triple distillation unique to Springbank, the vapour cooled in worm tubs. A refill American oak cask held it, keeping the distillery character to the fore. At this great age the malt is full and waxy, the fruit deep and the salt mellow. Everything is done on site, the spirit going from still to cask to bottle in Campbeltown. Demand far outstrips the small output, and bottles are keenly chased. Springbank, Longrow and Hazelburn each show a different face of the one distillery. The open larch washbacks are a rare survival in modern Scotch.

Undiluted at 53.1%, it is intense. An oily, maritime character with light peat are layered with creamy vanilla and oak sweetness. Soft fruit and brine sit behind the cask sweetness. It finishes deep, complex and maritime. This is a revered Campbeltown single malt.
