Description
This Springbank, an official release matured to 10 year old from 2001, drawn from cask 139 and bottled at 57.3%. Springbank has distilled in Campbeltown since 1828, one of the last working distilleries of old Campbeltown. The cult around Springbank has made it one of the most collected of all malts.
It was given the part triple distillation unique to Springbank, then condensed through worm tubs. Maturation in a sherry cask laid dried fruit over the maritime malt. Still young, the malt is oily and robust with a coastal lift. Sea air works into the warehouses, lending a saline thread as the whisky breathes. Quality and tradition, not volume, have always been the watchwords here. The spirit is filled to cask and matured within the distillery walls. Few distilleries keep so much of the old craft alive under one roof. Campbeltown was once the whisky capital of the world, with more than thirty distilleries at its peak.
At its natural 57.3% it is concentrated. An oily, maritime character with light peat are layered with a sherried dried fruit and nuts. A coastal salt and an orchard fruit lift it. It finishes deep, complex and maritime. This is an oily, salty Campbeltown classic.
