This Longrow, an official release, a 23 year old Campbeltown malt and bottled at 42%. Only 204 bottles were released. The Springbank distillery, in Mitchell family hands since 1828, is prized for its rich, oily, hand made spirit. Bottles are released in small batches, often through ballots to meet the demand.

The make was distilled twice from malt kilned over plenty of peat, the vapour cooled in worm tubs. A Rum cask shaped it, lending brown sugar and a tropical lift. At this age it is rich and complex, the fruit folded into a waxy, briny body. Long maturation suits the heavy, characterful make, the cask knitting slowly with the spirit. The town and the sea run through every cask of the make. The sea loch at the foot of the town shapes the coastal character of the malt. Demand far outstrips the small output, and bottles are keenly chased. Springbank, Longrow and Hazelburn each show a different face of the one distillery.

Bottled at 42%, it is rounded. Smoke, tar and an oily maritime depth meet brown sugar and a rum sweetness from the cask. Soft fruit and brine sit behind the cask sweetness. It closes long, oily and salty. This is a tarry, coastal Campbeltown malt.
