Description
This official Longrow single malt, a 21 year old Campbeltown malt and bottled at 40.1%. A release of 216 bottles. The Springbank distillery, established in 1828, is run much as it was a century ago. Uniquely in Scotch, every drop is floor malted, distilled, matured and bottled on the one site.
The make was floor malted, peated hard and double distilled for Longrow, and run into cast iron worm tubs. A Rum cask shaped it, lending brown sugar and a tropical lift. Past twenty years the spirit turns waxy and profound while keeping its character. Years in oak deepen the fruit and the maritime character together. The old town of Campbeltown once rivalled Speyside as Scotland's whisky heart. Quality and tradition, not volume, have always been the watchwords here. The spirit is filled to cask and matured within the distillery walls. Few distilleries keep so much of the old craft alive under one roof.
At 40.1% it is smooth and oily. Brown sugar, banana and a tropical lift from the cask underpins smoke, tar and an oily maritime depth. It is deep and complex, the maritime spirit shining through. It closes long, oily and salty. This is a robust, smoky Campbeltown whisky.
