Description
This official Longrow single malt, aged 16 year old and bottled at 46.4%. A release of 9 bottles. Established in 1828, Springbank is one of the last working distilleries of old Campbeltown. The cult around Springbank has made it one of the most collected of all malts.
The spirit was double distilled from heavily peated, floor malted barley, then condensed through worm tubs. Ex-Bourbon casks held the spirit, soft oak that lets the make lead. By this age the maritime weight rounds into a richer, fuller malt. Sea air works into the warehouses, lending a saline thread as the whisky breathes. Few distilleries keep so much of the old craft alive under one roof. Campbeltown was once the whisky capital of the world, with more than thirty distilleries at its peak. Today just three distilleries survive in the old Kintyre whisky town. The maritime warehouses by the sea lend the malt its briny, oily depth.
At 46.4% it is supple and briny. A robust peat reek over brine are layered with a vanilla and toffee sweetness. A coastal salt and an orchard fruit lift it. Sea salt and fruit draw out the close. This is a smoky, maritime Campbeltown single malt.
