Description
This Springbank, an official release matured to 14 year old from 2009, drawn from cask Rotation 118 and bottled at 56.5%. Springbank has distilled in Campbeltown since 1828, still owned by the Mitchell family, five generations on. Uniquely in Scotch, every drop is floor malted, distilled, matured and bottled on the one site.
It was given the part triple distillation unique to Springbank, and run into cast iron worm tubs. A sherry butt held it, the wood lending raisin and walnut. By this age the maritime weight rounds into a richer, fuller malt. Coastal warehousing gives the malt its briny, mineral lift. The distillery has become a place of pilgrimage for whisky enthusiasts. Kintyre's damp, mild climate suits a long and gentle maturation. The old town of Campbeltown once rivalled Speyside as Scotland's whisky heart. Quality and tradition, not volume, have always been the watchwords here.
At a natural 56.5% it is full and oily. A coastal, waxy spirit with gentle peat meet a sherried dried fruit and nuts from the cask. It is deep and complex, the maritime spirit shining through. It finishes deep, complex and maritime. This is the cult Campbeltown malt from J and A Mitchell.
