Springbank 8 Years Old

This official Springbank single malt, aged 8 year old and bottled at 80%. Springbank has distilled in Campbeltown since 1828, still owned by the Mitchell family, five generations on. Uniquely in Scotch, every drop is floor malted, distilled, matured and bottled on the one site.

It was given the part triple distillation unique to Springbank, and run into cast iron worm tubs. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, the wood adding a light honeyed sweetness. Younger here, it keeps a vigorous, briny freshness over the oily body. Coastal warehousing gives the malt its briny, mineral lift. Today just three distilleries survive in the old Kintyre whisky town. The maritime warehouses by the sea lend the malt its briny, oily depth. A 1940s Porteus mill and an open iron mash tun are part of the old setup. The Mitchell family has held the distillery for five generations.

At its natural 80% it is concentrated. A coastal, waxy spirit with gentle peat meet a vanilla and toffee sweetness from the cask. It is deep and complex, the maritime spirit shining through. It finishes deep, complex and maritime. This is the cult Campbeltown malt from J and A Mitchell.
