This Springbank, an official release, a 5 year old release and bottled at 57.1%. Springbank, founded in 1828 in Campbeltown, is campbeltown's most revered surviving distillery. The distillery champions the old, slow, labour intensive way of making whisky.

This was distilled the Springbank way, two and a half times from floor malted barley, and condensed in traditional worm tubs. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, with vanilla under the oily fruit. Still young, the malt is oily and robust with a coastal lift. Everything is done on site, the spirit going from still to cask to bottle in Campbeltown. Springbank, Longrow and Hazelburn each show a different face of the one distillery. The open larch washbacks are a rare survival in modern Scotch. The distillery has become a place of pilgrimage for whisky enthusiasts. Kintyre's damp, mild climate suits a long and gentle maturation.

At a hearty 57.1% it carries real weight. An oily, maritime character with light peat are layered with vanilla, honey and coconut. Beneath it run oily fruit, salt and a coastal depth. The close is rich, fruit over a saline depth. This is the flagship malt of old Campbeltown.
