Springbank 30 Years Old (47.3%)

A distillery bottling of Springbank matured to 30 year old and bottled at 47.3%. 500 bottles in all. Springbank has distilled in Campbeltown since 1828, a survivor of Campbeltown's great whisky era. Concerto barley is malted on the floors and kilned in the distillery's own kiln.

It was made by Springbank's singular two and a half times distillation, then cooled slowly in worm tubs. Maturation in a sherry cask laid dried fruit over the maritime malt. Very old Campbeltown make turns profound, oily and tropical with a coastal salt. Refill oak lets the distillery character lead, all oily weight and coastal salt. Quality and tradition, not volume, have always been the watchwords here. The spirit is filled to cask and matured within the distillery walls. Few distilleries keep so much of the old craft alive under one roof. Campbeltown was once the whisky capital of the world, with more than thirty distilleries at its peak.

At 47.3%, undiluted, it is deep and powerful. Brine, wax and a light peat note sit over raisin, fig and a vanilla sweetness. The texture is rich and oily, the salt threaded through. The finish runs deep, briny and warm. This is a complex, coastal Campbeltown whisky.
