Description
An official Springbank single malt, aged 30 year old and bottled at 46%. Only 1400 bottles were released. Springbank, run by J and A Mitchell since 1828 in Campbeltown, is a family distillery that malts and bottles every drop on site. The whole process, malting included, is carried out by hand on the one site.
This was run through the distillery's part triple distillation, the malt floor malted and gently peated, and slowly worm tub cooled. A sherry cask wrapped the oily spirit in dried fruit and a nutty depth. At three decades and more it is rich and oily, tropical fruit, beeswax and salt in a deep, old malt. The slow loss of the angel's share concentrates the oily, complex core over time. Demand far outstrips the small output, and bottles are keenly chased. Springbank, Longrow and Hazelburn each show a different face of the one distillery. The open larch washbacks are a rare survival in modern Scotch.
Reduced to 46%, it is mellow. Dried fruit and a vanilla oak meets a salty, waxy depth with a whisper of peat. It is rich and layered, the fruit and salt well matched. A warming, oily finish lingers long. This is a hand made Campbeltown single malt.
