Description
An official Springbank single malt matured to 25 year old and bottled at 46%. The outturn was 1300 bottles. Springbank has distilled in Campbeltown since 1828, a byword for traditional Scotch whisky making. Campbeltown was its own protected whisky region long before the revival.
It was made by Springbank's singular two and a half times distillation, and slowly worm tub cooled. A sherry cask wrapped the oily spirit in dried fruit and a nutty depth. Beyond twenty years the malt grows waxy and deep, tropical fruit and salt over an oily base. The hands on, small scale working shapes a spirit of real individuality. The open larch washbacks are a rare survival in modern Scotch. The distillery has become a place of pilgrimage for whisky enthusiasts. Kintyre's damp, mild climate suits a long and gentle maturation. The old town of Campbeltown once rivalled Speyside as Scotland's whisky heart.
At 46% it is supple and briny. A briny, oily depth with a hint of peat ride on raisin, fig and a vanilla sweetness. It is rich and layered, the fruit and salt well matched. The finish runs deep, briny and warm. This is a hand made Campbeltown single malt.
