Description
From Glenscoma comes this Springbank matured to 22 year old from 1993, drawn from cask 334 and bottled at 55.9%. Only 269 bottles were released. Springbank has distilled in Campbeltown since 1828, one of the last working distilleries of old Campbeltown. Uniquely in Scotch, every drop is floor malted, distilled, matured and bottled on the one site.
It was run through the distillery's part triple distillation, the malt floor malted and gently peated, and run into cast iron worm tubs. A sherry butt held it, the wood lending raisin and walnut. Past twenty years the spirit turns waxy and profound while keeping its character. Sea air works into the warehouses, lending a saline thread as the whisky breathes. Campbeltown was once the whisky capital of the world, with more than thirty distilleries at its peak. Today just three distilleries survive in the old Kintyre whisky town.
At 55.9%, undiluted, it is deep and powerful. A briny, oily depth with a hint of peat are layered with a sherried dried fruit and nuts. It is deep and complex, the maritime spirit shining through. It finishes deep, complex and maritime. This is Springbank's rich, oily, maritime style.
