Description
An official Springbank single malt matured to 19 year old and bottled at 46%. Just 82 bottles were filled. A family distillery since 1828, Springbank is a byword for traditional Scotch whisky making. The whole process, malting included, is carried out by hand on the one site.
The spirit was drawn off after two and a half distillations of gently peated malt, and slowly worm tub cooled. A wine cask shaped it, the fruit and tannin meeting the oily spirit. Past a decade the oily spirit deepens, fruit and salt knitting with the oak. The hands on, small scale working shapes a spirit of real individuality. The open larch washbacks are a rare survival in modern Scotch. The distillery has become a place of pilgrimage for whisky enthusiasts. Kintyre's damp, mild climate suits a long and gentle maturation. The old town of Campbeltown once rivalled Speyside as Scotland's whisky heart. Quality and tradition, not volume, have always been the watchwords here.
At an approachable 46% it is balanced. A briny, oily depth with a hint of peat ride on plum and red berry. It is rich and layered, the fruit and salt well matched. Salt and oily fruit see out a long finish. This is a hand made Campbeltown single malt.
