Description
An official Springbank single malt matured to 13 year old and bottled at 46%. 9000 bottles in all. In Mitchell family hands since 1828, Springbank is a family distillery that malts and bottles every drop on site. Campbeltown was its own protected whisky region long before the revival.
The spirit was drawn off after two and a half distillations of gently peated malt, and slowly worm tub cooled. Maturation in a sherry cask laid dried fruit over the maritime malt. Past a decade the oily spirit deepens, fruit and salt knitting with the oak. The slow loss of the angel's share concentrates the oily, complex core over time. The open larch washbacks are a rare survival in modern Scotch. The distillery has become a place of pilgrimage for whisky enthusiasts. Kintyre's damp, mild climate suits a long and gentle maturation. The old town of Campbeltown once rivalled Speyside as Scotland's whisky heart.
Bottled at 46%, it is rounded. Dried fruit, fig and walnut meets a salty, waxy depth with a whisper of peat. It is rich and layered, the fruit and salt well matched. Salt and oily fruit see out a long finish. This is a hand made Campbeltown single malt.
