Springbank 12 Years Old Cask #Batch 25

An official Springbank single malt matured to 12 year old, drawn from cask Batch 25 and bottled at 57.2%. A family distillery since 1828, Springbank is a byword for traditional Scotch whisky making. The distillery sits in the heart of Campbeltown, near the head of its sea loch.

The spirit was drawn off after two and a half distillations of gently peated malt, with the spirit condensed in worm tubs. Ex-Sherry wood suited the heavy make, adding a dried fruit richness. Past a decade the oily spirit deepens, fruit and salt knitting with the oak. The hands on, small scale working shapes a spirit of real individuality. Springbank, Longrow and Hazelburn each show a different face of the one distillery. The open larch washbacks are a rare survival in modern Scotch. The distillery has become a place of pilgrimage for whisky enthusiasts. Kintyre's damp, mild climate suits a long and gentle maturation.

At 57.2%, undiluted, it is deep and powerful. A briny, oily depth with a hint of peat ride on raisin, fig and a vanilla sweetness. A waxy weight and a saline tang give it real body. Salt and oily fruit see out a long finish. This is Springbank's rich, oily, maritime style.
