Description
A Springbank single malt, selected and bottled by C&S Dram Collection, a 12 year old Campbeltown malt from 1998, drawn from cask 109 and bottled at 60.5%. 283 bottles in all. The Springbank distillery, a family distillery since 1828, is campbeltown's most revered surviving distillery. The distillery champions the old, slow, labour intensive way of making whisky.
The make was run through the distillery's part triple distillation, the malt floor malted and gently peated, and condensed in traditional worm tubs. A refill American oak cask held it, keeping the distillery character to the fore. Past a decade the oily spirit deepens, fruit and salt knitting with the oak. The hands on, small scale working shapes a spirit of real individuality. The old town of Campbeltown once rivalled Speyside as Scotland's whisky heart. Quality and tradition, not volume, have always been the watchwords here.
At a full 60.5% it is bold and oily. A briny, oily depth with a hint of peat are layered with vanilla, cream and light coconut. It is rich and layered, the fruit and salt well matched. A warming, oily finish lingers long. This is a hand made Campbeltown single malt.
