This Springbank, an official release, a 12 year old and bottled at 43%. The Springbank distillery, a family distillery since 1828, is one of the last working distilleries of old Campbeltown. Uniquely in Scotch, every drop is floor malted, distilled, matured and bottled on the one site.

The make was distilled two and a half times from lightly peated, floor malted malt, and run into cast iron worm tubs. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, the wood adding a light honeyed sweetness. Mid age brings a fuller fruit and a deeper coastal complexity. Sea air works into the warehouses, lending a saline thread as the whisky breathes. The Mitchell family has held the distillery for five generations. The town and the sea run through every cask of the make. The sea loch at the foot of the town shapes the coastal character of the malt. Demand far outstrips the small output, and bottles are keenly chased.

Reduced to 43%, it is mellow. An oily, maritime character with light peat are layered with vanilla, honey and coconut. It is deep and complex, the maritime spirit shining through. It closes long, oily and salty. This is the cult Campbeltown malt from J and A Mitchell.
