Description
This official Springbank single malt, aged 10 year old and bottled at 57%. Springbank has distilled in Campbeltown since 1828, prized for its rich, oily, hand made spirit. The distillery champions the old, slow, labour intensive way of making whisky.
It was given the part triple distillation unique to Springbank, and condensed in traditional worm tubs. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, gentle American oak beneath the spirit. At a youthful age the make is lively, salty and full of character. Long maturation suits the heavy, characterful make, the cask knitting slowly with the spirit. Quality and tradition, not volume, have always been the watchwords here. The spirit is filled to cask and matured within the distillery walls. Few distilleries keep so much of the old craft alive under one roof. Campbeltown was once the whisky capital of the world, with more than thirty distilleries at its peak.
At a full 57% it is bold and oily. A coastal, waxy spirit with gentle peat meet creamy vanilla and oak sweetness from the cask. Beneath it run oily fruit, salt and a coastal depth. It finishes deep, complex and maritime. This is the flagship malt of old Campbeltown.
