Siete Leguas is a family owned reference house, founded in 1952 and named for Pancho Villa's horse, producing at NOM 1120 in Atotonilco el Alto in Jalisco. It is the distillery that originally made the Patrón brand before that line moved elsewhere in 2002, and it remains a staple for drinkers who want classic, structured tequila. This Añejo is a 100% Blue Weber agave tequila aged twenty four months in American oak casks.
The house is known for running two distilleries and blending the results, one using a mule drawn tahona and the other a roller mill, with wild yeast fermentation in wooden vats and copper pot distillation. The producer states it works without additives. Two years in American oak give the Añejo notes of red fruit and woody depth without losing the cooked agave underneath, with a warm, silky, softly sweet palate and a balanced finish.
