Shizuoka Single Cask #2021-968 is a 4 Years Old single malt from Gaiaflow's Shizuoka distillery in Shizuoka prefecture, opened in 2016 and already earning a devoted following for its unusual dual-still setup and commitment to local ingredients including cedar washbacks and regional barley. This bottling was drawn at cask strength directly from a single Ex-Bourbon cask and released through an event channel.
The non-peated new make, designated KS in the distillery's production records, matured in Ex-Bourbon oak and arrives at 52.7%, where the wood contributes vanilla and light caramel around a fresh, cereal-driven core typical of Shizuoka's young single malts. The house style at this early age leans clean and fruit-forward, with the bourbon barrel rounding the edges without overwhelming the distillery's bright, delicate character.
