Description
This Scapa, an official release and bottled at 40%. Scapa, built in 1885 by the sheltered waters of Scapa Flow, is the honeyed counterpoint to peated Highland Park. It overlooks Scapa Flow, the anchorage where the German fleet was scuttled in 1919.
Distilled on Lingro Burn water through its unusual Lomond still, building the gentle Orkney style it is loved for. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, gentle American oak beneath the fruit. Carrying no age, it leans on honey, vanilla and orchard fruit. The slow loss of the angel's share concentrates the honeyed, creamy core over time. It is one of the few distilleries still worked largely by hand. Founded in 1885, it is the second oldest distillery on Orkney after Highland Park. Island maturation by the sea lends a faint salt air to the honeyed spirit. The Lomond still is the only one of its kind still making Scotch whisky. Orkney's history runs back seven thousand years, from Neolithic times to Norse rule.
Bottled at 40%, it is rounded. A creamy, honeyed sweetness sit alongside honeyed oak sweetness underneath. It is soft and rounded, the honeyed spirit shining through. A honeyed, fruity finish lingers long. This is Scapa's soft, maritime Orkney style.
