Description
Yamazakura 15 Years Old Sherry Cask Finish is a cask strength single malt from Sasanokawa Shuzo's Asaka distillery in Fukushima prefecture, bottled in 2015 in a 550ml format for the Japanese domestic market. The combination of an extended fifteen-year maturation and a no-dilution bottling makes this one of the more intense expressions in the Yamazakura range.
The liquid spent the bulk of its time in Ex-Bourbon casks before a finish in Oloroso sherry wood added a second chapter of dark dried fruit, candied orange peel and warming spice. At 59% the sherry influence is vivid and the Ex-Bourbon base of vanilla and soft cereal remains clearly present beneath it. A focused, unhurried bottling from Fukushima that rewards patience in the glass.
