Description
Single malt Rosebank, an independent Mackillop's Choice bottling, a 15 year old release, from 1990, drawn from cask 1752 and bottled at 55.7%. Rosebank stood on the canal at Camelon, near Falkirk from 1840 until it was brought to a halt in 1993. Ian Macleod bought the site, the trademark and the last casks from Diageo in 2017.
The spirit was triple distilled and worm tub cooled, the Rosebank way, for the elegant, floral style that crowned it King of the Lowlands. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, lending honey and vanilla under the grass. Mid age brings a fuller honey and a deeper tropical note to the florals. Decades in oak build a waxy weight over the elegant Lowland distillate. Closed in 1993, the site fell derelict and its copper stills were stolen in 2008. Ian Macleod rescued the distillery, the trademark and the last casks, reopening it in 2023. The first new make ran on the 5th of June 2023, almost thirty years to the day after closure.
Bottled at a cask strength 55.7%, it is rich. Vanilla and a light cream from the barrel, with lemon and cut grass. The mouthfeel is gentle, the honey carried on a waxy body. A softly floral finish lingers warm. This is prized stock from a distillery reborn only in 2023.
