Description
This Rosebank was from the independent bottler Cadenhead's, an 11 year old release, from 1980, drawn from cask 2235 and bottled at 60.1%. Rosebank stood beside the Forth and Clyde Canal from 1840 until it was shut by its owners in 1993. The distillery was reborn in 2023, but these casks date from its legendary years.
It was distilled three times and passed through traditional worm tub condensers, to build the floral, grassy malt blenders prized. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, gentle American oak beneath the fruit. Younger here, it keeps a crisp, green freshness over light honey. The light triple distilled base lets cask character show clearly even after long years. Blenders prized the malt for its elegant, floral character and unusual weight. Closed in 1993, the site fell derelict and its copper stills were stolen in 2008. Ian Macleod rescued the distillery, the trademark and the last casks, reopening it in 2023.
At cask strength 60.1% it is full bodied. A gentle vanilla and coconut from the wood runs under gooseberry and fresh grass. A beeswax and a tropical fruit give it real depth. A softly floral finish lingers warm. This is prized stock from a distillery reborn only in 2023.
