A drier, woodier take on Zacapa from Industrias Licoreras de Guatemala, with caramel, vanilla, roasted nut and toasted oak over light spice, an easy, comfortable solera-built sipper at 40%.
Description
This El Alma bottling comes from Ron Zacapa, made by Industrias Licoreras de Guatemala from cane honey and built through the highland solera that defines the brand. Bottled at 40%, it offers a less sweet, more oak-driven reading than the standard Zacapa 23, trading some of the syrup for toasted wood.
The nose leads with vanilla, nutmeg and a caramelised note, with the palate bringing caramel, toasted oak, roasted nut and citrus, closing woody and spiced with a touch of mace. The result keeps Zacapa's easygoing comfort while leaning drier and nuttier, with a bitter almond edge appearing for some. For drinkers who enjoy the Zacapa profile but find the core expression too sweet, it is a comfortable, wood-forward sipper that stays soft and approachable.
