An older style Guatemalan from Zacapa’s Centenario White Label, a sweetened cane honey solera blend that runs drier and woodier than today’s bottlings, with dark chocolate, barrel, coffee, leather and vanilla closing on mocha, smooth at 40%.
Description
Ron Zacapa Centenario White Label 4 Medals is a Guatemalan ron from Industrias Licoreras de Guatemala, an older bottling of the famous Zacapa name. Made from cane honey rather than molasses and built using the high altitude solera method, it carries no fixed age, the label reflecting a blend of components, and it is column distilled and sweetened in the house style.
This older White Label is prized for being noticeably drier and woodier than the current range: dark chocolate, barrel, coffee and vanilla on the nose, then wood, barrel, leather and vanilla on the palate, closing on dark chocolate, barrel, mocha and a smooth finish. It is still a sweetened solera rum, but the balance leans more toward oak, leather and roasted depth than the sweeter modern expressions. At 40% it is smooth and rounded, a more characterful, wood forward snapshot of the Zacapa style that drinkers regard as a step apart from what the brand bottles today.
