Ron Cueva 1501 Rum Sistema 18 Solera

Ron Cueva 1501 is a Panamanian brand built around a solera system, the fractional-blending method borrowed from sherry where older casks are continually topped up with younger spirit. The Sistema 18 here refers to that solera, not an age, so this is a young rum carrying a trace of older stock rather than an 18 year old. The base is a column-still molasses rum from Panama, a country whose rons lean soft, mellow and vanilla-spiced. Bottled at 40%, it is built as an easy, approachable sipper. Solera-aged Panama rums in this mould are typically on the rounded, gently sweet side, so expect a smooth, dessert-leaning character rather than a dry, spirit-forward one. Sweetness is not disclosed.
