Romdeluxe Collectors Series No. 8 2007

This Collectors Series release from Danish bottler Romdeluxe takes a fifteen-year Dominican rum from a 2007 vintage and bottles it at full cask strength without added sugar. Most of the blend is tropically aged Dominican spirit, peppered with a smaller high-ester portion that lifts the fruit and gives the whole thing more reach than the usual mild Dominican profile.

Distilled on a column still and matured in ex-bourbon casks, it shows woody oak, coconut, vanilla and caramel on the nose, then turns dry and peppery on the palate with cacao and yellow fruit. The finish is long, warm and spiced. At 65% the alcohol is present but well integrated, and the absence of dosage lets the oak and ester character stand out clearly. This is one for experienced palates after power and dryness rather than easy sweetness.
